"You can do it next time". "You have to do it a certain way". "I'm actually almost finished" (just started). Boo to the number of times I spit out these excuses while really just rushing to get things done and avoid messes. I'm not exactly sure when clarity came for me, but man am I am grateful it did. I realize there are countless moms and dads out there that ooze patience and never really question/ed letting their littles help. I was definitely late to the laid back party!
Thankfully, it's different for us now. I embrace letting them crack eggs, and hulk smash them into a bowl (mostly) while we make breakfast. The crescent rolls for pigs in a blanket don't really need to be rolled to perfection. Sticky hands can be washed-quickly before touching absolutely anything-and dried. I challenge the no's, stop's and other shortsighted answers waiting to report from my brain. I realize now that each time one of the girls asks to help me with something the ticker denotes one less opportunity to watch them get fired up and excited to DO. Besides, who doesn't love their eggs crunchy!
